EXTENSIONS and alterations to the Lawns Nursing Home at Kempsey could provide 17 more bedrooms.

But a plan to build 14 two-bedroom two-storey apartments in the grounds has raised strong opposition from Kempsey Parish Council.

Members did not object to the plan for 17 new bedrooms, but said the proposed apartments would be outside the settlement boundary.

No explanation had been given as to why they were being built and members could see no justification for them, said planning chairman David Harrison.

"They would bring an increase in commercial traffic and a substantial increase in demands on mains and water services," he said.

The plans have still to be considered by Malvern Hills District Council.
