A BROMSGROVE man is starring in a Channel 4 programme, which shows him trying to reach the big time in the world of musical theatre.

Musicality, which is based on the hit show 'Operatunity', follows hopeful singers who dream of ending up on the West End stage.

Twenty-six-year-old Alex Weatherhill, of Carlisle Road, Aston Fields, made the brutal cut from 2,000 video entries last year, and last Wednesday was shown getting through to the next stage after an audition in Cardiff.

Today Alex will be shown attending the semi-finals in May and is sworn to secrecy about whether he got through - but he says 'keep watching!'.

In the first programme Alex was complimented on his amazing falsetto voice.

Alex said: "The falsetto voice runs in the family.

"Some people have called me a freak but I prefer naturally talented!"

Alex worked as a training officer for the Ministry of Defence, but gave it up to follow his dream.

For the past year he has been working on cruise ships and in productions around the world trying to get his big break.

But now it looks like Alex might have cracked it.

When asked how he would deal with fame he said: "I am quite a private person, I might be tempted to run away!"

The winners of the competition will get a chance to star in one of the most popular West End musicals Chicago.

While Alex says it would be 'nave' to think it would change his life he recognises it is a splendid opportunity.

"I just want to make the most of it," he said.

Musicality is on Channel 4, tonight at 9pm.
