HOUSE builder Westbury has won the contest to buy prime development land for a housing project that will help fund a south Shropshire secondary school's bid to become a centre of sports excellence.
The sale of 5.4 acres of land at Cleobury Mortimer was announced by Kidderminster agents Halls.
Innovative plans for the town's Lacon Childe School combine extra sports and recreation facilities with the residential development, which will include a mixture of private, social and affordable homes.
Money from the sale of the land will help to fund the school's plans for three floodlit tennis and netball courts, a floodlit all-weather surface, two new rugby pitches, a redesigned football pitch, a cycle track and a large community recreation area.
