PAUL Sampson staked his claim for a Sixways deal with a double try burst last night.

The former Wasps and Bath wing impressed during Worces-ter 'A' side's 42-15 victory over Sale Jets at Sixways.

Sampson -- on trial at Worcester after playing rugby league with London Broncos this year -- showed good pace and awareness to bag a brace of tries in the comfortable Zurich 'A' victory.

"What we were looking for was pace and we certainly got that," said head coach Andy Keast. "His first try was a clever little play and for his second he showed great awareness and pace so that was good."

Worcester will now sit down with the former England international's agent to see if a deal can be struck.

The Warriors may wish to extend the 27-year-old's trial period but much will depend on negotiations this week.

With Ben Hinshelwood now unavailable because of international duty with Scotland, the Sixways club are looking to bring another winger in and Sampson could fit the bill.

Ben Gollings -- drafted in because of wing Uche O'Duza's withdrawal -- also took the eye, converting all of Worcester's tries on the night.

"Ben did very well," added Keast. "He hasn't had a chance to kick in a match yet because of James Brown and Tommy Hayes but he got his opportunity last night.

"He kicked six conversions from six attempts."

Siaosi Vaili and Sampson bagged Worcester's first-half tries to give them a 14-5 lead but the Warriors pack overwhelmed Sale in the second period with Chris Hall, Neil Mason, Sampson and Alex Rae going over.

Meanwhile, Worcester should know more about their injury list later today.

Fly-half Brown -- sidelined because of a neck injury -- had a MRI scan yesterday while centre Thomas Lombard will also have a scan today on his injured knee ligaments.

Prop Chris Horsman is expected to be fit for Saturday's sell-out Premiership clash with Leicester Tigers at Sixways after suffering a cheekbone injury, while Worcester will monitor fellow prop Steve Sparks' calf niggle this week.

Neil Lyman will also be in contention for a front row place after recovering from a neck problem.
