TREES will line the High Street for Remembrance weekend as the next stage of the city centre redevelopment continued this week.

Ash and pear trees were planted yesterday and will fill all available plots in Worcester's High Street by the weekend.

Metal fencing, noisy machinery and the dust caused by the work will also be removed in time for Remembrance Sunday and then for Christmas shopping.

"The street will be back to a reasonably open view and people will get a better idea of what it's meant to look like and hopefully will be more sympathetic to the work that's been done," said Andy Walford, city centre transportation manager.

The ash trees, similar to those near the Cattle Market car park, have leaves that turn deep red and black in the autumn while the pear trees, which can also be seen in Britannia Road, have white blossom in the spring.
