MORE than 500 YFC members from all over England and Wales took part in the national competition finals, with Worcestershire being well represented.

Competitions in which members took part in were:

n Cookery:

Jane Hemingway, Wythall YFC, Dave Talbot, Cutnall Green YFC and Roseanna Ash, Hagley YFC, all took part in the team cookery event which saw them preparing a meal on the theme of "Astronauts' Welcome Home Dinner".

They were placed 16th.

n Junior Blindfold Sheepdog Challenge:

David Norrington and Martin Truslove, from Wythall YFC, came 13th in the Junior Blindfold Sheepdog Challenge.

This involved David dressing up a shepherd and instructing his blind sheepdog, Martin, around an obstacle course.

n Floral Art:

Ayley Fernihough, Inkberrow YFC, Catherine Hemming, Inkberrow YFC, and Penny Evans, Crowle, took part in the Junior, Intermediate and Senior elements of the Floral Art Competition.

This involved them created displays to the theme of "The Solar System".

Ayley was placed 22nd in the Junior section, Catherine came 10th in the Intermediate section and Penny was placed 1st in the Senior section.

n Junior Member of the Year:

Hannah Talbot from Cutnall Green YFC, who has previously won this competition at both County and Area level, was placed 2nd in the National Final.

As part of the competition she had to produce a portfolio of her last 12 months in YFC and have an interview.

DOZENS of sporty YFC chaps took the chance to scrum down at the Worcestershire YFC men's seven-a-side rugby competition.

Five teams of brave young farmers competed head-to-head at Pershore Rugby Club, Wyre Piddle, in an exciting morning of rugby matches.

The rugby competition is just one of the games played by the clubs as part of the County Sports Shield.

Teams from Bromsgrove, Crowle, Inkberrow, Wythall and a joint team consisting of Cutnall Green and Tenbury Wells played some tough games to secure their club points towards the championship.

Final results at the end of the morning were as follows:

1st Bromsgrove

2nd Crowle

3rd Wythall

4th Cutnall Green/Tenbury Wells

5th Inkberrow

Bromsgrove will now represent the county in the area final to be held in April next year.
