I HAVE been interested in reading about Christopher Whitehead school, having been a pupil there many years ago.
I was among the first pupils to be transferred to "Chrissies," then just a temporary building used while the main school was being built, from the old St Clement's school in Church Walk where the children would clatter down the huge iron staircases, some open to all elements, out to the rough square of concrete which was our playground. We didn't know or expect anything better, but we did enjoy our school days.
