RESIDENTS in Worcester are in with a chance of winning a car by taking part in a special raffle to raise cash for St Richard's Hospice.

Shoppers can buy tickets for £2 and win a new Rover Streetwise car worth £10,000, which has been donated by Startins of Worcester.

Cash from the raffle will be donated to the hospice, based in Rose Hill, near Worcester city centre, which provides care and support for people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

The charity launched an appeal in June to raise cash to fund a new £5.25m hospice in Worcester, which will house all the services it currently provides in Rose Hill, as well as 15 specialist beds, the first of their kind in South Worcestershire.

St Richard's director of fund-raising Marilyn Peachey said: "We have been delighted with the number of tickets sold so far, but are hoping to sell even more and make it a bumper raffle."

The raffle is due to take place on Saturday, November 6, when the car will be on display at the junction of Angel Place and Broad Street, at the entrance to CrownGate shopping centre in the city centre.

The tickets will be on sale again on Saturday, November 20, at Angel Place and are also available through the hospice, on 01905 763963.

The winner will be told after a draw at Malvern Theatres on Wednesday, December 1.
