MANOR Park Tennis Club have rounded off an excellent season for the club's teams by reaching the final of the Peugeot Inter-Club Challenge.

In an event that attracted entries from over 300 clubs around the country, Manor Park triumphed in a close fought semi-final against the David Lloyd Club, Edinburgh.

In front of an enthusiastic home crowd, the tie was level at 1-1 after the first round. Liz Veal and Alice Huskinson lost 6-3, 6-3 to a strong womens pair from Edinburgh, but club coach Chris Skinner partnered Mike Marks to win the men's doubles 6-4, 6-4. This meant the tie had to be decided with a mixed doubles in which Chris Skinner teamed up with Liz Veal. After winning a close first set 6-4 it looked like Manor Park might cruise to a straight sets win, but Edinburgh fought back strongly to win the second set 6-2.

However, Manor Park were not to be denied and after a couple of tight early games raced away to win the third set 6-1 to rapturous applause.

Captain Mike Marks said: "We're thrilled to have made the final after so many years of trying and we'd like to thank everyone who came to support us on the day - the atmosphere was great and I'm sure it helped us through the tense periods in the match."

Manor Park now travel to Basingstoke on November 14 to play either Esporta Devonshire or current holders Esporta Croydon.
