BROMSGROVE Rovers are hoping for a bumper crowd as they go head-to-head with local rivals Halesowen Town in the FA Trophy first round proper.

Rovers take on the Yeltz fresh from a 1-0 victory at Taunton Town in Southern League Division One West.

Boss Joe Jackson believes that, coupled with a vociferous support, can give his side every chance of success.

"The fact we won a game against a team that were top of the table at the time might encourage some of the locals to come along and give us some vocal backing.

"There's no reason for us to be lacking in confidence, Taunton was a real confidence booster last week. We are hoping there's a big crowd and that will inspire the boys."

It is an eagerly anticipated match, not least because it brings former Rovers favourite Steve Pope back to the Victoria Ground for the first time since his summer departure. Pope took charge of Rovers' final six games of last season following the resignation of George Rooney.

Also travelling with Halesowen, who reached the FA Cup first round proper last weekend, are former Rovers strikers Richard Burgess and Paul Danks, who have both enjoyed spells with Redditch.

The match has the potential to be a thriller and Jackson thinks it offers his players the opportunity to reach their potential. In his eyes, results this season have not always reflected performances and he sees this as a chance to put things right.

"I think we have looked half decent but are just not getting the results," said Jackson, who for once has the luxury of a full squad to pick from.
