WITH reference to your recent feature on the opening of the new Renal Unit in Stratford, I am delighted that this project has succeeded and many people will benefit from it.

However, I and other people in the area who have been involved in the fund raising, are a little upset as to the publicity and awards given to Carolyn Russam. Whilst we all agree she has been instrumental in her involvement in this project, it seems to have been forgotten that the person who started this major fundraising campaign was in fact Caroline Watson, herself a dialysis patient.

Caroline started the campaign with a coffee morning at her house in 1997 and organised many fund raising events up until 2000 when Carolyn Russam became involved and I have managed to raise nearly £2,000 thanks to my family, friends and Stratford Town Football Club. It was therefore, a little sad when I heard that on the day of the opening of the new unit that Carolyn, in her opening day speech only seemed to remember the person who had nominated her for her awards and not the hard working people who started the campaign and who have spent many hours raising the money for this to take place.

Whilst I do not want to spoil this magnificent achievement, I and many others feel very strongly that credit should be given where it is due and say thank you to Caroline Watson who has been pushed in to the background after kick starting this campaign.

MRS LOUISE WEATHERHEAD, on behalf of Caroline Watson and friends, Bordon Place, Stratford.
