A HOMEGROWN Wyre Forest band whose members spent the last year reinventing themselves after one left is set to unveil its new sound at a Kidderminster pub tonight.

Matthew Colley, of the Amateurs, said the band, which also comprises 25-year-old drummer Matthew Jones and 24-year-old bassist, Andrew Fletcher, lost some followers when co-singer and guitarist, Rob Ledger, left last December.

The 24-year-old singer/guitarist and pianist said they were hoping to build their fan-base back up tonight, however, at the launch concert of their new EP, Red Sky, and website, www.theamateurs.co.uk, at the Boars Head Taphouse.

"We've had to reinvent ourselves as a three piece so we've gone back to basics, concentrating on melody and rhythm rather than big guitar sounds," he said.

"Rob was the other singer/guitarist and we had quite a poppy sound, whereas now we've gone more acoustic."

He added his band, which previously released the albums Whatever You Want It To Be and The Amateurs, had recorded their new five-track EP at Rich Bitch studios in Birmingham.

"This concert is massive for us because we haven't really done much for quite a while. We lost our following when Rob left and now we're starting to build it back up, so tonight should be pretty busy," he said.

"We've promoted it well so we should get quite a good following from it, which is what we want, to take with us to places like London, Cardiff and Bristol.

"I've already spoken to venues in all three of these places and they're just waiting to hear our CD."

The gig will kick off at around 9.30pm with a concert by Kidderminster-based support act Escape from Alcatraz. Mr Colley added: "We've played the Taphouse many times before and they've always been really good to us so it will be brilliant to return there."
