A KIND-HEARTED 16-year-old DJ from Kidderminster, who has raised around £1,500 for the children's charity, Childline, is to add to his wealth of fund-raising experience with a disco in aid of the County Air Ambulance.

Richard Oakley, who received the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Award in recognition of his extensive charity work last year, is set to spin at the Ramada Hotel in Bewdley on Saturday and will be joined by big-hearted 11-year-old Stourport saxophonist, Sam Pagett.

Sam is also a heavyweight fund-raiser, having used the saxophone his late father gave him to raise cash for Kemp Hospice by busking.

Richard, who visited Althorp estate six weeks ago after receiving a personal invitation from Princess Diana's brother, the Earl of Spencer, will be playing favourites from the 60s right through to pop songs of today.

He said he organised the event because "you never know when you might need the air ambulance yourself".

"All the proceeds of the concert will go to the air ambulance and I hope to do one next year as well," he said.

Richard's father, Malcolm, added two women representing the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Award, were set to attend the concert from London.

"Richard had a personal letter from Charles Spencer and we've been to Althorp about six weeks ago, which was absolutely wonderful," Malcolm said. "It said basically 'I know my sister would be immensely proud of you'".

Cleobury Mortimer singer/songwriter Jake Flowers, who was featured in the Shuttle/Times & News last month when his debut album, The Rooster Got Laid, hit the shelves of music stores, is also set to perform at the disco.

Copies of his CD will be on sale at the event and a cut of the sales profits will be donated to the air ambulance. Jake said he was honoured to be involved in the event.

"The air ambulance do a fantastic job," he said. "It's a worthwhile cause and I'm honoured to support it."

Tickets for the event, which runs from 7.30pm until 11.30pm, can be purchased at the venue on the night or in advance at Charlie G's sandwich shop on New Road, Kidderminster.

Richard is also due to host an event at The Coopers Arms pub in Abberley on November 27 in aid of the Shuttle/Times & News' Operation Covert appeal, which is aiming to rebuild a Bewdley scout centre gutted by fire.
