Mike Holmes presented "Autumnal Reflections", with a selection of recorded music and informative dialogue on October 22.

The music included Autumn from Glazounov's Seasons, the second movement of Brahms's Clarinet Quintet (the composer was in the autumn of his years when he composed it), and Tchaikowsky's Rococo Varions for Cello and Orchestra.

The Three Choirs festival, which was first held in 1715, used to be held in early autumn and in 1884 Dvorak conducted his own sixth symphony, with a young Edward Elgar in the orchestra, so Mr Holmes played a recording of the finale of that work, followed by Elgar's Introduction and Allegro.

The programme ended with music by Franz Liszt, on the anniversary of his birth in 1811 - Humoresque - based on Gaudeamus Igitur, the Liebstraum number three, and part of Liszt's Piano Concerto.

Tickets for the third Conservatoire recital, at Kidderminster Library on November 19, are available from Von Stewart on 01562 755990.
