A TYPICAL hard-fought derby at Wyre Forest in the second round of the Worcestershire FA Junior Cup, ended in a 4-2 victory for cup-holders Bewdley.

Both sides had early chances, some shots going wide, but both goalkeepers were called into action.

It was 25 minutes before there was any score, when Gary Middleton pulled down Forest's Richard Costello and from the resulting penalty Andy Oakey gave Steve Thomas in the Bewdley goal no chance.

Just 10 minutes later Hough was pulled down by Dan Bentley, and Middleton scored from the resultant free kick through a crowded goalmouth to equalise.

After the interval Middleton's free kick came back off the cross bar and Hart was on hand to head Bewdley in front. Hart added a second in the 69th minute, from a Lewis Pountney pass after a long run down the left.

Four minutes later Neil Turford's long throw as headed in at the far post by Pountney. He could have added a second following a through ball from his brother, Sam Pountney, but the ball went into the side netting.

Costello scored a consolation for Forest when he stabbed the ball home from six yards in the 82nd minute. On Saturday Bewdley entertain Ashbourne.

Chaddesley Corbett Football Club had to postpone their clash with West Midlands League Division Two leaders Malvern Rangers, due to an unfit pitch.

Having beaten Ellesmere Rangers the previous Saturday, Chaddesley were hoping for a repeat performance against Malvern, but they have to wait for their next match, against Cresswell Wanderers, who play at Great Wyrley, to try to emulate the Ellesmere victory.

Players are asked to meet at the Land Oak on Saturday for 12.45pm. Kick-off is at 2.45pm.

Manager Richard Downey has singled out midfielder Niel Osborne for special praise, as despite struggling with injuries he has turned in two excellent performances.
