STOURPORT were the latest team to try to halt North Mids South Two table-toppers Bredon Star - and the latest to fail as they went down 27-10.

The well-drilled visitors disrupted Stourport's loose play from the offset, scoring several fortune tries from the hosts' mistakes.

Although Stourport had a few of their players returning from injury, they remained a little ring-rusty after not being able to train.

Despite this and despite losing their hooker, prop and scrum half, the hosts dominated the scrums and lineouts.

However Stourport were 12-3 down at half time after Bredon grabbed two tries, one of which was converted, while they could only muster a Lee Philp penalty.

The second half saw a further two tries from Bredon, one of which wasconverted, and also a penalty kick.

In the 65th minute, Stourport managed to penetrate the Bredon defence and full back Malcom Bourne crashed over the line to score with Philp adding a superb conversion from out wide.

This Saturday, Stourport entertain to touring side Welshpool in a friendly at Walshes Meadow, kick off 2.30pm.

The seconds were on the receiving end of a crushing 59-0 home defeat to a much superior Stourbridge Lions side.

The main positives were the quality of Stourport's set piece play and the team spirit shown by every player in competing until the final whistle.

And there was no shame in losing to a Stourbridge side which could quite comfortably compete at a much higher level.

For Stourport, Kevin Brown and Les Pimm both produced good tackling displays but man of the match went to Alan Banks who worked tirelessly all game.

This Saturday the seconds travel to University Worcester in the merit league at 3pm.

Bewdley-Stourport's trip to Bredon Star last weekend was cancelled due to lack of players. Anybody wishing to turn out for them should contact 07787 141613.
