KIND-hearted dog lovers are needed in Kidderminster to help walk and train guide dog puppies.

The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association is appealing for puppy walkers to care for and educate puppies from six weeks of age for a year.

The pups will live with the volunteers when they begin their specialised guide dog training, which will involve being taught basic obedience and being prepared for their working life ahead.

They will need to get used to a home environment, noise and the bustle of towns as well as public transport including trains, buses and taxis.

Guide Dogs' puppy walking supervisor, Sue Cole, said: "We are desperate for more puppy walkers and would urge anyone who is interested in getting involved to get in touch.

"At the end of the day, if we don't have puppy walkers we don't have guide dogs."

She added: "Puppy walking is challenging and it is a commitment but our volunteers find it extremely rewarding and worthwhile."

Puppy walkers will need be at home most of the day, have a secure yard or garden and have access to a car to be able to take their puppy into many varied environments.

The association supplies basic equipment and covers feeding and veterinary expenses.
