Evesham II 7pts, Yardley II 2

SATURDAY'S winners built on the previous week's success at Walsall with an emphatic win at the High School.

As the scoreline suggests, the home side dominated the game but some fine saves from the Yardley keeper and a lack of composure in front of goal meant that the first goal didn't arrive until the 16th minute when Paul Mil-ler's pinpoint pass picked out Phil Wood in the D and he managed to lob the keeper at the second attempt.

A double substitution saw John Vickery and Mark Payne strengthen Evesham's attacking options and the width that Mark Dufty and Matt Haines provided on the flanks meant the visitors just couldn't cope.

A number of short corners were won and Wood combined well with Liam Burtenshaw for the former to make it 2-0.

Paul Martin showed great skill just before half-time to beat three players, round the goalkeeper and slot the ball home to give Evesham a three-goal interval cushion.

It was one-way traffic after the restart and Kevin Jobson pulled the ball back accurately for Dufty to hit the ball on the half-volley into the corner.

With Evesham continuing to dominate the midfield, Rob Leighton penetrated the Yardley defence with ease and slide the ball through to Payne to net a fifth.

A couple of counter attacks caught out the home rearguard but Evesham hit back and, when Martin created space in the right hand side of the D, his pass found Dufty who produced an unstoppable finish.

It was left to Wood to cap a fine display with his second successive hat-trick when his pace left the now beleaguered Yardley defence for dead.
