Solihull Blossomfield 3, Evesham 1

EVESHAM'S latest Coaching Solutions West Midlands Premier League match again ended in defeat and controversy.

After dominating the early proceedings, the visitors failed to create enough chances in the second half after squandering easier ones in the first.

Evesham were reduced to nine men late in the game with temporary suspensions and Matt Bau-mber received a late red card for a petulant response to some cynical tactics.

Evesham started with their usual vigour and soon put the Bloss-omfield defence under pressure. However, out of form striker Stuart Bearcroft failed to convert chances that came his way while Mark Brown couldn't hit the target from good positions in the top of the area.

Baumber and Stuart Harris were dominant in midfield and able to find space along the flanks.

Nick Lloyd marshalled the defence superbly and moved forward with purpose to ignite much of Evesham attacking play. Yet, as the half progressed and chances went begging, Solihull became more confident and only sound defending from Seb Seneque, Neil Sollis and James Tickle kept them out.

In the second half, Evesham should have been able to dictate the game but too many personal individual battles took over from a passing team performance.

This provided a short corner opportunity that James Nicholas will be disappointed to have let slip through from a direct strike, although a successfully converted penalty stroke from Chris Perry evened things out.

As the tackles became more cynical and play became less fluent, the Solihull umpire made a number of decisions that seemed to astound both sets of players.

Baumber and Steve Miller were both given temporary suspensions for innocuous challenges, while the home side were allowed to break down play at will.

Evesham defended with nine men and keep the score level until in the final five minutes the home umpire unbelievably issued a red card to Baumber for trying to take a quick hit and accused him of retaliating to a cynical tackle that went unpunished. Similar offences by the home side went unnoticed!

With a numerical advantage once more, Solihull were able to score two late goals to beat a dejected Evesham side.

Evesham entertain struggling Old Silhillians on Saturday at Evesham High School (1.30pm).
