STOURPORT'S roller-coaster start to the season hit dizzying new heights as back-to-back wins saw them climb to third in the table.

Dave Titterton's side can now look ahead to Saturday's Walshes Meadow clash against Brackley Town having banished the spectres of their dismal display against Yate Town.

And once again the Swifts boss had his mix of youth and experience to thank for securing the week's six-point haul.

Young striker Duncan Willetts was the star of the show against Thame United on Saturday, bagging what became the winner before making way for Mark Atkinson in the second half.

But it was former Aston Villa defender Bryan Small who set the ball rolling with a third minute opener as he curled a free-kick around the wall and into the net.

Willetts menaced the visiting defenders and it needed a goal line clearance to deny him inside the opening half-hour. But he made amends on 36 minutes when he collected a Mark Crisp pass before netting his first goal of the season.

Crisp then went close to adding to the tally but it was a different story after the break as the Oxfordshire side battled to find a way back into the match.

Justin Merritt gave them hope on the hour but solid defending kept the visitors at bay for the remainder of the game.

Swifts (v Thame) O'Malley 7, Green 7, Small 8, Webb 6, Powell 7, Hayward 6, Lloyd 6 (Giddings 46, 7), Childs 7, Crisp 8 (Mason 69, 6), WILLETTS 9 (Atkinson 46, 8), Shirley 7. Subs (not used): Jones (A), Checketts. Att: 126.

Late pressure was also the order of the day at the Hand Stadium on Tuesday when two goals in as many minutes ensured Stourport returned from Clevedon Town with a 2-1 win.

Steve Lester struck a consolation for the home side deep in injury time but it was too little too late to clip the wing of the high-flying Swifts.

O'Malley needed to produce a good save to deny Tom Jacobs early on in the match but Titterton's side came to life after the break with Willetts and John Hayward going close.

The breakthrough came on 64 minutes. Nick Green picked out Willetts who, in turn, found John Shirley, who scored from the edge of the area.

Shirley then turned provider, the former Hereford United midfielder teeing up Crisp who made no mistake from 12-yards.

Lee Vickerman's red card 13 minutes from the end didn't help the home side and Stourport almost added a third soon after when Crisp headed against the upright.
