WINGER Stuart Roberts could be added to Kidderminster Harriers' threadbare side to tackle Mansfield Town at Field Mill tomorrow.

Harriers are today hoping to sign the former Wycombe and Swansea player on a short-term basis initially after he played for the reserves on Wednesday night.

The 24-year-old, who cost Wycombe £100,000 in 2001 but then suffered with injuries, has bagged 19 goals in more than 170 Football League appearances.

Assistant boss Gary Barnett said: "Roberts has been training with us and we can see his fitness is good. He spent most of pre-season at Chester.

"He was a threat on Wednesday down the right-hand side and produced some dangerous crosses, especially in the first-half."

Harriers have been robbed of the striking services of Simon Brown, serving a one-game ban for the Darlington red card, and Youssou Diop who is struggling with several niggling injuries, including his hamstring.

With Chris McHale also having his knee checked today after picking up an injury in the reserve match, Jan Molby is down to the bare bones against one of Coca-Cola League Two's fancied sides.

Molby will want his team, who are yet to concede a goal, to keep up their unbeaten record, especially with ex-Harriers favourites Adam Murray, Colin Larkin and Neil MacKenzie playing for the opposition.

Richie Appleby, Jesper Christiansen, Jamie Gleeson, Simon Russell and Scott Rickards will all be pushing for a starting place in Nottinghamshire.

Appleby, on his way back from injury problems, managed a full 90 minutes for the reserves and is believed to be impressing in training.

The game has surely come too early for Mansfield old boy Iyseden Christie though in his return from a broken foot.

Barnett admitted: "The players from the reserve game that are fit for the weekend have put themselves in with a chance.

"Gleeson was very busy. Appleby playing 90 minutes was a massive bonus."

Despite Mansfield losing their first two games 2-0 at home to Bristol Rovers and 1-0 at Oxford, they bounced back by beating troubled Chester 3-0 on their midweek travels with Larkin on target with a spectacular effort.

Harriers number two said: "Mansfield have two very quick forwards in Larkin and Derek Asamoah. Murray will be trying to provide the ammunition for them.

"He will want to perform against us, as will MacKenzie and Larkin. You always like to play well against your old club. It doesn't matter whether you left on good or bad terms.

"We have got to be positive attacking wise as once we got to grips with Darlington we did well. It will be three men up front again.

"Mansfield's win on Tuesday was a big boost for them. They hit Chester at the right time but it's still a good result."

With Harriers just finding the net once through a penalty, the big question will surround whether they can keep their impressive defensive record.

Barnett added: "Wayne Hatswell and Adie Viveash have helped but all credit to John Danby in goal.

"He sets himself very high standards and works to them day in day out."
