BEN Gollings could yet line up against Newcastle in Worcester's Premiership baptism after becoming a Warriors player.

The 24-year-old yesterday signed a one-year deal at Sixways to become Worcester's final summer signing and may face his former club first up in the Warriors' opening game of the Premiership season.

Worcester line up against the Falcons on September 5 and head coach Andy Keast believes his latest acquisition will be determined to impress.

"Obviously with Matt Burke going to Newcastle, his opportunities would have been even more limited," said Keast. "He'll be looking to prove a point but, more than anything, he wants to prove it at Worcester.

"We're delighted that Ben's decided to come to Worcester. What he has, and it is something that you cannot coach, is pace and pace in abundance.

"He's a natural finisher, can play on the wing or at full back and he's also a goal kicker so, from our point of view, he's a great acquisition to the squad."

Gollings has carved out a reputation as a sevens player after a massive amount of experience for England at that level. However, Keast believes that Gollings wants to make a name for himself in the 15-man game.

"He's been branded a sevens player," added Keast. "It's a reputation that I know he certainly wants to get rid of and he definitely wants to establish himself in the 15-man game.

"Ben is only 24 but he has a vast amount of experience of sevens rugby on the international stage and, importantly for us, he has experience of Premiership rugby with two different clubs, Harlequins and Newcastle.

"I'm always keen to have multi-skilled players in the squad because I think it's invaluable and Ben is another example of a player who can play in a number of different positions. He's certainly not one dimensional."

Gollings had a year left on his Falcons deal but Newcastle agreed to release him, much to Worcester's delight.

"He's very impressed with Worcester and he'll be joining up with the rest of the squad on Monday," said Keast.

"Certainly, he just wants to get down to training, get to know the boys and begin his Worcester career. From our point of view, we're very happy to have him. We're all very excited about this signing."
