TOP scorer Ian Foster has backed a rejuvenated Jesper Christiansen to keep proving his critics wrong in a Kidderminster Harriers shirt.

The Dane, signed from Odense at the start of the year, was slated for scoring just one goal up front in more than 30 appearances but he now appears to have found his calling -- in midfield.

Christiansen, 24, caught the eye on the left-hand side in Saturday's 3-2 win over Scunthorpe with a determined, skilful and creative display.

Director of football Jan Molby declared that the one thing Christiansen needed to make him a force in Coca-Cola League Two was a goal.

But four-goal Foster, who is resting a knee problem this week in order to make Saturday's squad at Bristol Rovers, has been amazed to see Christiansen struggling to make an impact in the past.

The popular striker, who returned to the club from Chester City in the summer, said: "I cannot understand why Jesper gets stick from certain sections of the crowd.

"He's a fantastic player, big and strong, who's got great touches. Hopefully, his performance on Saturday will now be a stepping stone to go and show the Kidderminster people what he's about.

"Jesper's got mental toughness and has come through a bad spell though I didn't think he was playing particularly badly. He just didn't get the right breaks in front of goal."

Molby, who is working on making a new signing before the weekend, said: "Jesper had a terrific game against Scunthorpe and all he needs still from his game is a goal.

"He gets a little more time in that position. He does see a pass, his vision is very good as is his close control.

"At times when he plays up front, he's a little bit too over deliberate.

"But playing that midfield role suits us and he gives us a lot of size, someone to hit with free-kicks and goal-kicks."
