LEON Kelly admits it will be a miracle if Worcester City win the league but is still backing the club for a high finish.

The striker's confidence will be under the microscope tomorrow with the visit of third-placed Nuneaton Borough to St George's Lane.

Alan Lewer's side have twice beaten City this season but in both matches there was little to separate the sides.

A defensive mistake cost them a point in the 2-1 league defeat while failure to capitalise on early pressure saw them exit the FA Cup 1-0.

Kelly, whose superbly taken equaliser had taken City within tantalising distance of a point, believes tomorrow will require a strong performance if they are exact revenge.

"We'll need to be strong all over but particularly in defence and up front," said Kelly.

"They've got two big guys at the back so they're going to be good in the air which means we'll have to try and play it to feet.

"I know I've not got the best feet in the world but we've got to try and get the ball into feet and also get behind them with little through passes because they're not that quick."

Nuneaton started the season among the favourites to lift the Dr Martens Premier Division title but they hit the rocks in November with a spate of defeats and they've struggled to win on a regular basis since.

It's a state of affairs familiar to Worcester fans but with Boro boasting just one league win from five, John Barton's team might be in with a chance of a valuable three points.

In a season of bewildering ups and downs, Kelly has been one of the few performers to produce his best form on a regular basis.

However after enduring a run of seven games without scoring through October and November, it has been far from plain sailing for the former Ilkeston Town hit-man. "It did bother me not scoring because as a striker you want to score every time you play," said Kelly.

"But to be fair I haven't had that many chances and if you're not getting chances you can't score.

"I'd like the chance to miss sometimes though we won't mention that miss against Moor Green."

"Inconsistency affects everyone in the team. One minute we're up and everyone is happy as Larry, and we're scoring lots of goals and then the next week it all goes to pot.

"It's frustrating but it happens. Horrible things do happen in football but we've just got to keep going and turn things round.

"These next few matches are big games for us and will go someway to determining how we're going to do.

"At the end of the day we know we can beat team Weymouth, Crawley and Nuneaton.

"It's just doing it but I still think we have got a strong chance.

"I reckon we will be up there though it will take a miracle to win it."

FORMCAST: City to share points 1-1.
