ROOKIE striker James Keene aims to improve Kidderminster Harriers' miserable away record by opening his goal account at Chester City tonight (7.45).

The 18-year-old Portsmouth striker has only been signed on work experience but looked an exciting prospect despite the weekend's 2-0 Coca-Cola League Two defeat at Bristol Rovers.

Bottom-of-the-table Harriers have claimed just one point -- on the opening day of the season at Rushden and Diamonds -- and scored only one goal on their travels.

But Keene's impact in his first-team debut gave Jan Molby's men added attacking impetus and they need a result at Chester who are six points and six positions above them.

The teenager, who hails from Wells in Somerset, admitted: "The manager said I did well after the Bristol game which makes me feel better and hopefully grow in confidence.

"I want to play well at Chester and get a few goals.

"I jumped at the chance to come to Kidderminster. It can only do me good. I've found this league a bit more physical and quicker with more balls in the air but there was a good crowd at Bristol and I enjoyed it."

With injuries dictating, Molby is not in a position to make many changes in Harriers' first visit to the Deva Stadium and must play 'keeper John Danby who damaged his foot on Saturday. Reserve Danny Lewis has a hand injury.

The Harriers director of football will hope his centre-halves cope better with any strikers, such as former Everton prospect Michael Branch, un-leashed by Chester manager Ian Rush, Molby's former Liverpool team-mate.

Molby added: "I think there's a lot of things we have to take into Tuesday's game from Bristol but we have to get rid of the bad defending. Our centre-halves need to play better and make better decisions."
