FOR the third year in succession Bromsgrove was to have an entrant in the Monte Carlo Rally. Mr E Marsland, from the Oakalls, planned to make his debut in the arduous event driving a Jowett Javelin. Bromsgrove pharmacist Terence Hall had taken part in the last two but this year was in the Tulip Rally.
THE well-known Bromsgrove grocery and seed merchant business of JB Wilson celebrated the centenary of its founding. John Broad Wilson had founded the business in High Street, opposite London Road (Stratford Road), with savings of just £20 against the advice of his father. However, the business flourished and he was able to purchase other properties in Bromsgrove and elsewhere in villages around the town.
A QUICK look at some prices realised at Bromsgrove's Tuesday market showed dog puppies met a brisk trade at 35/- (£1.50 each) bunches of daffodils 3/- (15p) and potatoes to 12/3 (61p) per hundredweight.
THE governors of Bromsgrove College of Further Education met again to decide if the history of trade unions could be included in the syllabus. Previously, when the matter had arisen, the inclusion had been much criticised and there was even a suggestion it would be a "bag of dynamite." However, the governors agreed this time.
