IN his response to Peter Nielsen, Richard Chamings resorted to his usual spurious remarks about the EU to accommodate his own views on Poland's membership into the European Union.

In his recent letter, Mr Chamings criticised former British politicians for conning Britain into staying in the Common Market, because presumably they knew best.

Well, in view of Poland's history over the last 100 years or so, Mr Chamings also seems to think that he knows what is best for Poland better than the Polish people themselves.

Perhaps this is how UKIP is planning to rescue Britain from fortress Europe. Incidentally, according to Radio 4's Re-Union on Sunday, September 5, the term European Union did exist back in 1975.
