WHERE on earth does D E Margrett get his much-quoted figures from? For example, he states "the economic loss" to Britain if we pull out of Europe will be approximately £25bn per annum.

This statement implies that the UK makes a £25bn "profit" from being in the EU. Unfortunately, the opposite is the case.

We are a net contributor to the EU (second only to the much bigger country of Germany) to the tune of at least £2bn.

Furthermore, our balance of trade deficit with the EU is currently about £8bn a year. Yes, he is right when he states that about 50 per cent of our trade is with EU.

Unfortunately, it's three to one in the EU's favour. So, as our Prime Minister and his fellow Europhiles persistently state "millions of jobs depend on the UK being in Europe" this is very true. But sadly, they are not British jobs, rather EU jobs that depend on exports to Britain.

We now learn that one of Cosworth's two Worcester factories is likely to close soon with the loss of about 250 jobs. The reason given is "lack of orders"!

But surprise, surprise, Cosworth is owned by a large German vehicle manufacturer. No prizes for guessing where the jobs are going.

So, D E Margrett, fear not, even if Britain voted to leave the EU, there is no way we would be allowed to. We are far too important to them.

N WINTER, Worcester.
