THERE was only one name on the lips of Worcester City supporters after Monday's thrilling Nationwide North draw with Kettering Town -- Aaron Kerr.

Yet the Northern Ireland Under 21 international does not know what the fuss is about, modestly describing his show-stopping display between the sticks as "okay".

Kerr, 21, is currently spending as much time on an aeroplane as he is on the football field, shuttling to and from Belfast and Liverpool airports as he covers for City's injured number one Danny McDonnell.

While most working folk would balk at such commuting arrangements, Kerr is more than happy to clock up the air miles so long as he gets first-team action.

The former Wolves trainee, in goal at Worcester on a week-by-week contract until McDonnell recovers from cracked ribs, has played very little football over the last 12 months.

He was signed on a one-year deal with Walsall, then playing at Championship level, last summer as cover for Jimmy Walker but suffered a broken wrist in November which kept him out for six months.

Negotiations then broke down over a new contract, despite Kerr impressing in the reserves in the last four games of the season.

He also turned down a move to Boston United, claiming the move was not right for him.

Kerr, who starred for Northern Ireland in every age levels from Under 14s to Under 21s, is now unattached and kicking his heels at his family home in Carrickfergus.

He said: "I really don't know what the future holds for me. I'm enjoying playing for Worcester at the moment but I realise I won't be there a long time.

"I know I'm a good goalkeeper and I could probably play in League One or Two. However, I've not trained for about three months and I've been sat around at home watching videos and playing a lot of golf. I'm looking to shake off a knee problem which I've had for a bit.

"The last 12 months have not been the greatest and I've lost my taste for the game a little. Hopefully, I'll get that back."

Kerr made his City debut in the 2-2 draw at Runcorn FC Halton and has quickly impressed the home faithful with his shot-stopping feats.

He will be looking for another good display today as City take on Ashton United at Surrey Street.

Kerr added: "I've been surprised and pleased about my own performances. I thought I did okay against Lancaster and Kettering. I can play a lot better.

"Everyone at Worcester has been absolutely brilliant. I know City's goalkeeper is very good and they wanted somebody who could compensate for his loss.

"It's a little bit awkward that I have to fly over every week. Last week, I went over on the Friday, played the Saturday and Monday, then came back on Tuesday. There's a lot of old professionals who still do this sort of thing though."
