Football enthusiasm in the Link is increasing rapidly and has extended to the animal world. The match with Droitwich on Saturday was enlivened by the interruptions of several dogs, who endeavoured to assist their favourites. Their efforts, however, had not the desired effect and at one time, when near the Droitwich goal, they caused a regular stampede among the players. Malvern Gazette, September 16, 1904.

The Ledbury Gas Company, with a view to assisting and encouraging those who wish to adopt the penny-in-the-slot gas meters, are prepared to supply the same on advantageous terms. For the nimble penny, the patrons can secure four hours of gas. Ledbury Free Press, September 20, 1904.

Private enterprise is still flourishing in the West Midlands. As a result of a recent amalgamation with the well-known business of Gertrude Mitchell, which has for 40 years been part of the Worcester business scene, Warwick House, Malvern, is to extend its showrooms so that by early spring it will be one of the largest fashion houses of the Midlands, one that will each season hold dress shows on its own premises, and cater under one roof for the many varying needs of women.

The last weekend of Ledbury Town Cricket Club's season was characteristic of the season. Both the scheduled Saturday games against Gloucester City were washed out by the rain that made the wicket unplayable. Ledbury Reporter, September 17, 1954.

Firemen from three Worcestershire brigades battled through Thursday night at one of the biggest local hop farm fires in living memory. The flames leaping from buildings at Moat Farm, Leigh Sinton, could be seen ten miles away and police closed the main Hereford-Worcester road because of danger to traffic. Fire swept through the oast house and adjoining buildings at midnight. More than 11 tons of hops were destroyed in the fire, which started after routine sulphur-burning operations.

More than half the people who have asked for council accommodation in Ledbury will have a chance of being housed in the first phase of the proposed estate on Deer Park, Ledbury. So far, over 100 applications for council housing have been received. The waiting list in Ledbury now stands at 180. Ledbury Reporter, September 20, 1979.
