THE Labour MP for Worcester admits that Worcester has above-average crime levels in his own statement to the Press of Tuesday, August 24.

He goes on to say Worcester is being unfairly treated by our local constabulary and we do not get a fair deal from West Mercia.

Violent crime in Worcester is on the rise. The Labour Government's own figures published by the Home Office show violence against the person is up by 8 per cent, sexual offences are up by 20 per cent and robbery offences have risen by 30 per cent in the city.

One reason suggested for the above average crime rates in Worcester, according to the Labour MP, is the city is being cheated out of dozens of police officers, (Evening News, P1, Wednesday, August 25).

The police are doing the best job they can with limited resources and it's not for politicians to interfere in day-to-day management.

Moving existing police officers around the area isn't the answer to reducing crime. We need a net increase in bobbies on the beat to tackle violent crime in Worcester.

The next Conservative government will do this by providing 633 extra bobbies for our police force which means more resources available to Worcester city police.

MARGARET HARPER,

Worcester Conservative Parliamentary Candidate.
