I have often smiled at the ramblings of C R Cheeseman (Your Letters, September 10), but this time I felt under personal attack.

He obviously sides with Coun Hall-Jones over the siting of the Belle Vue bus shelter, against the advice of all the statutory bodies involved in the consultation.

Outside Warwick House the road is too narrow due to the long haul stop outside Rosebank Gardens, and to divert large buses down into Abbey Road is both unnecessary and dangerous as well as liable to cause traffic havoc.

Mr Cheeseman completely ignores the fact that perhaps a third of the population do not own a car, and a lot of these are youths who have no means of getting to a night club. The 675 night bus also gives an opportunity to go out and drink without the pressure of driving.

I also feel sad that so many buses go by empty; if it were up to me buses and trains would be free so that more folk would use them and the world would have a chance of remaining "green".

In the same issue Keith Phillips seems to assert that Malvern Town Council (of which he is a member, although no mention is made of this salient fact) is "visionary". I am still waiting for the "Action Group" to do something, and expect a long wait yet.

Lastly, I must clarify Mike Ostick's comments concerning microwave transmitters. While the levels measured around the Hills by Coun Bibby and myself are well within the safety standards, I think that the district council deserves praise for resisting the development of new sites.

Radiation of any kind is cumulative and the new 3G equipment creates stresses unforeseen by the standards committees. These levels are also certain to rise with increased usage and he also fails to mention that most transmitters have "hot spots" arranged in a triangle at 300 to 500 metres radius, and while the advice is to avoid frequent use of the handset by children, it completely ignores the 24/7 effect at such hot spots, and on those who happen to be sensitive to these emissions.
