I HAVE been reading the on-going debate through the Journal's letters column over the past two weeks, and also have views on Kanes Foods.

For a start, my family and I live in Main Street, South Littleton and we certainly do have a problem with traffic flow, in part due to inconsiderate parking but also due to the number of HGVs and Kanes mini-buses travelling regularly past our house. I am not in favour of the Kanes expansion and I am glad that I don't live near enough to put up with the noise from the factory. However, I do walk my dogs regularly along the track bordering the back of the site and I do know that the smell from the rotting waste salad products, which is spread on the fields behind is disgusting. This does happen and I was one of the village people who attended the open meeting and we were assured that our complaints about this were unjustified, as this was not usual practice, and, anyway it was really up to the farmer as to how he chose to dispose of this bi-product which they supplied him with, free of charge.

My final point regards last week's letter whereby Mr Chimes stated that the Kanes workforce were not accepted into the community and were unable to find accommodation other than that provided by Kanes. I rent out four flats in Evesham and have, over the past six years, leased to Kanes employees. I have one man who has been with me for more than two years and I couldn't wish for a better tenant. We have had no problems from any overseas workers and would willingly let the flats out to them in the future.

The workers who live in our village have not caused any problems either although it can be a bit unnerving meeting a group of four or five unknown foreigners when out walking late in the evening.

We are happy to co-exist with this workforce, however, we just don't thing that such a small community can, on balance, incorporate any more large numbers of transient workers.

Oh, and just as a footnote, Mr Chimes may work at Kanes but I note that he lives at Wyre Piddle and is fortunate enough to leave the factory behind him, at the end of his shift, something us villagers can't do!
