PEDRO the Great Pretender is the last in the RSC Spanish Golden Age season and rounds off what has been an enjoyable series of productions.
The comedy unsurprisingly centres on Pedro, a man with a knack for overcoming any tricky situation that comes his way. This includes convincing a bumbling town mayor to allow a humble shepherd to marry his beloved daughter. He also dupes a miserly widow out of her sizeable fortune in an attempt to win the heart of a gipsy beauty.
John Ramm plays Pedro, with enough charisma so audiences take him to their hearts as a loveable rogue. The large cast includes actors who have appeared in other productionS of the Golden Age season. Pedro the Great Pretender runs at The Swan Theatre, Stratford, until September 30.
