THE Severn Valley Railway is to feature in a long-awaited big screen version of a children's classic.

A film crew visited the railway line on Tuesday and Wednesday last week to film part of the much-hyped Walt Disney movie The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.

The filming was carried out by a "second unit" from London-based production company, Stillking, and included footage shot from a helicopter above the famous heritage railway line, which runs between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth.

The 20-strong crew also visited Highley Station to film one of the movie's opening sequences, where parents wait for a train bringing their children from war-torn London.

About 10 extras were also on hand for the shoot.

Leader of Wyre Forest District Council, Stephen Clee, said: "I am delighted the company have chosen the Wyre Forest for this area's beauty and splendid location and backdrop.

"We have a fantastic opportunity to put Wyre Forest on the international map."

The main sequences of the film are being shot in New Zealand by director, Andrew Adamson, of Shrek fame, and the movie will be released at Christmas 2005.
