Hinton 2 Tenbury United 2

AFTER trailing 2-0 at the break Tenbury responded positively to a half time pep talk and fought back to secure a West Midlands League Division 1 point at Broomy Hill in Hereford on Saturday.

Against a Hinton side in prime form after a slow start, and who have proved something of a bogey side in the past, it can be viewed as a point gained rather than two lost, with in truth two sides probably not finding their best form in blustery conditions.

Playing against the wind the United generally competed well and would have been reasonably happy to go in one goal down at the break, but gave themselves a mountain to climb after conceding a second soft goal right on the break. Steve Whitford was allowed to run through unchallenged from midfield to give the home side a flattering lead.

The half started well with the visitors gaining a penalty after Dave Spencer in the Hinton goal had brought down Nicky Stocker.

The keeper redeemed himself by saving Graham Caldicott's spot kick.

The home side took the lead, however, when a hurried clearance was neatly slotted home by Jody Dawe.

Tenbury were more positive after the break and reduced the arrears just before the hour.

Caldicott made amends for his penalty miss by supplying a perfect cross for George Pearson to nod home from close range.

With the wind at their backs the United enjoyed most of the attacking, but the equaliser came out of nothing ten minutes from time. Ryan Morris volleyed home in spectacular style.

Ironically with a win beckoning, the visitors took their foot off the pedal and had to rely on a fine save from Davies to hold onto the point gained.
