EVESHAM Rowing Club members Tina Bonham and Teresa Roberts returned home from the World's biggest regatta - The World Masters - with gold medals.

They travelled to Hamburg to take part in a mixed veteran C (43-50) quad alongside more than 4,000 other competitors from all over the world.

Bonham's crew was put together on the day of the race and consisted of two American men from Palm Beach RC and two girls from the Vale girl's UK Gold team.

Six countries took part in the multi-lane race, two from Germany and one from France, America, Holland and England.

Bonham's composite crew got ahead from the start and held the lead until the finish winning in a time of three minutes and 26 seconds over the 1,000.

Bonham also raced in two veteran Eights events in which the United Kingdom had won for the past three years.

The C race was a most exciting race with Germany and GB crossing over the line in a photo finish. Both crews waited with baited breath while the umpires decided who was to get the gold with the decision going to the Germans.

Again the B Eight proved tough with a handful of other countries taking part. Bonham's crew managed to finish third in a race that saw the leading trio separated by a mere five seconds.

The Evesham rower also raced in the Veteran B Double Sculls in which she managed to claim another third place finish behind France and Denmark.

Clubmate Roberts, meanwhile, picked up a gold medal when she coxed a men's Vet C four from Chester.

In her Vet B Single Scull race, she came a close second behind her German opponent.
