AFTER recent thoughts of relegation last Saturday's maximum points victory over Kings Heath lifted Evesham to fourth place in the final Birmingham Lea-gue Division Three standings.

A solid middle order was the chief reason behind an all-out total of 190 before Francois Nel (5-27) and Ian Stowe (3-17) helped dismiss their opponents for 137 in just 32.4 overs.

Stowe's 26 from a position at the top of the order had earlier helped the Avon Street side to a steady start but it needed Nel's 29, 4 from Warren Irvine, 18 from Matt-hew Jackson and a fine 23 from Will Bailey to give the Evesham bowlers something to bowl at.

Nel and Bailey struck early blows before the former destroyed the top order to leave his side firmly in ascendancy.

There was no way back for the second-placed side who had no answer to Stowe's late sorcery and cap an excellent first season back in the higher status.

Overseas star Nel had earlier smashed a fine century when Evesham faced the Worce-stershire Fossils last Wedn-esday in the final celebration of the club's 150th anniversary.

Former skipper Simon Price marked his return to the club with an unbeaten half-century in the home side's formidable 241-6 declared.

Keith Middleton matched Nel's earlier efforts with a century but he received little support as the county-based Over-50s side batted out for a draw as they closed on 189-4.
