DEFENDER Barry Woolley could be back in action for Worcester City in a fortnight as hospital scans revealed no break in his left ankle.

It was feared Woolley would be sidelined for over a month after turning his ankle in the latter stages of last Saturday's Nationwide North victory over Lancaster City at St George's Lane.

But X-rays have revealed that the former Ilkeston player has avoided breaking a bone, although club physios are unsure about any ligament damage.

Woolley's ankle is badly swollen and he will certainly miss City's next three league games against Ashton, Worksop and Harrogate. It is also likely he will miss City's FA Cup tie on October 2.

City chairman Dave Boddy said: "I think we are looking at him being out for two to three weeks. That's better than what we previously thought."

Goalkeeper Danny McDonnell is also improving on schedule from his punctured lung and could make a surprise return to the first-team at Harrogate a week on Saturday.

Midfielder Jai Stanley, substituted before half-time against Lancaster with a groin problem, is likely to be fit to take on Worksop on Tuesday night.

Injured player-coach John Snape is eyeing a start in City's reserves next Wednesday when they take on Kidderminster Harriers at Aggborough.
