BROADWAY'S Horticultural Show was a success when more than 100 people took part in categories including cake baking, vegetable, fruit, and floral arrangements.

There were 550 exhibits in the show on The Green last Saturday.

An arts and crafts fair also took place at Lifford Hall, Lower Green, in conjunction with the event.

A brass band played, and there were a number of charity stalls.

It was the last show for chairman of the horticultural committee Dave Roberts, and his son-in-law Roy Walker, secretary, who have stepped down from their positions to free up more time for other commitments.

Mr Roberts has been involved with the committee since 1992, and Mr Walker has been involved for around four years.

John Keylock is the new chairman, and Roger Bailey the new secretary.

Men once more donned their pinnies in the kitchen when 15 of them were challenged to make Victoria sponges in the cake baking category.

"It was the best show we ever had," said Mr Roberts. "The entries were up over 20 per cent.

"The domestic judge said the domestic classes were the highest standard she'd judged this year.

"We went out on a high."
