FOOTBALL coaches in Bewdley are kickstarting a scheme aimed at developing the area's young talent.

Wayne Payton, Jan Mulders and Chris Middleton relaunch Bewdley Town Mini-Kickers on Sunday.

The initiative allows children of all abilities to play small-sided games in a positive environment.

It was originally started during the early 1990s when more than 1,000 children passed through the scheme and began their football development.

Children aged between five and eight can attend the first session at Bewdley Town's Ribbesford Meadows from 9.30am until 11am.

The first week will be free and then £2.00 after that. There will be t-shirts and certificates given out after a number of weeks and a chance to play against other mini kicker centres.

Previous youngsters on the scheme have gone on to play at a high standard in West Midland leagues, district and county sides.

Parents are also encouraged to take coaching courses with the FA to help their own and their children's development.

"We want to give kids who are interested in football a fun and enjoyable introduction to the game and if we get some good players along the way then even better," said coach Payton.
