WITH regard to the state of the 'boarded-up' town centre (Thisiskidderm
inster.co.uk website, September 9), we could say 'told you so...'
Wasn't it pretty obvious that the M and S site was going to be an eyesore and the opening of the new shopping area at Weavers Wharf would split the town?
Residents of Kidderminster and district, your council has no foresight and can only see as far as the next election. Unfortunately they are not the first and are only repeating the mistakes made by countless predecessors.
Here's an idea for you. Instead of crowding the streets with French and Victorian markets this year, (and making normal/safe walking almost impossible) why not open up the M and S site to the traders so that shoppers and traders alike can have some protection from the winter weather.
Once Christmas is over it could be used as a craft market with local small traders renting sites within (as shop rents are prohibitive for most people starting out).
The upstairs could even house a cafe and the stock/service lift would enable disabled people and those with children to get up there.
