Littleton 2, Wilmcote 0

LITTLETON progressed into the third round of the Midland Combination's President's Cup with a hard-earned win against their near neighbours.

On a wild and windy afternoon, Littleton kicked against the elements in the first half when they took the game to the visitors.

They went close on nine minutes when a Billy Hiden shot from the left was well saved by Mark Moss.

The Wilmcote stopper was in action again five minutes later when he saved bravely at the feet of Jon Gregory who had been put through by Simon Brain.

At the other end Geoff Amos shot wide when well placed before the hosts took the lead 11 minutes before half-time when an angled drive from Billy Hiden beat Moss at his near post.

Four minutes later it was 2-0 and again Hiden was involved with his free-kick being swept home by Paul Jones.

Wilmcote went close again through Amos whose half-volley went just over.

The wind dropped at the start of the second half but this was only the prelude to a heavy rainstorm, so strong that the players were forced to leave the field for eight minutes.

On the restart, home goalkeeper Danny Edwards was forced into a great save tipping a shot on to the bar and over the top.

Littleton went close to making it 3-0 when Brain dribbled through but his side-footed effort went narrowly wide before a powerful shot from Chris Bate struck the bar.

Littleton are at home again on Saturday against Leamington Hibernian in the first round of the Endsleigh Challenge Cup, kick-off 2.45pm.
