A CHADDESLEY Corbett teenager who told a court how she killed her cheating boyfriend with a kitchen knife after he beat her until she thought she would die has denied murder.

Emma Protheroe, 19, of The Birches, Woodrow Lane, said she followed James Martin, 23, to the home of another woman.

She called the other girlfriend on her mobile and told her: "Can you tell my boyfriend I'm outside."

She said he looked "sheepish" when he came out of the flat and they went home to Plumstead, south east London, in separate cars.

"When we got back he was just staring at me," she told the Old Bailey yesterday.

"I said, ''Let's forget it and go to bed and sort it out in the morning. He just started shouting at me, saying I had embarrassed him."

She said Mr Martin chased her into the bathroom of their flat, adding: "He just started raining blows on my head - big blows to my head.

"My head was smacking against the wall. He was hitting me and hitting me.

"He grabbed me and swung me around. He grabbed me like a rag doll. It was if I weighed nothing."

Protheroe blacked out and came to on the floor of the bathroom.

Mr Martin was in the living room and called her in saying "Don't make me come and get you."

She said: "I just felt punches again. He was punching me for a bit and then he would stop, wind himself up and then start punching me again."

Protheroe said Mr Martin told her: "You're not leaving" but she went into the kitchen to be sick.

"I felt him come into the room then I just felt blows to my back. I was saying, 'Please stop, you're going to kill me."

She added: "I just grabbed something off the side and I tried to get him away with it.

"I didn't even have a chance to think about what I was doing. It just happened.

"I just picked it up and swung it around. That was it. I didn't even know what it was.

"I didn't know I was going to hurt him. I didn't know he was going to die.

"When I saw the blood I thought, 'Oh my God.'

"I saw the knife in my hand. It was bent. I just threw it to the ground.'

Mr Martin chased her out of the house but collapsed on the doorstep.

An artery in his neck had been slashed open and he bled to death as she screamed for help.

The court has heard how she kicked in her own door with her bare feet to call an ambulance.

She was found cradling Mr Martin with her hair and hand caked in his blood in the early hours of May 12 last year, sobbing: "Don't let my baby die."

She said she had loved the body builder boyfriend she met in 2001 and thought he was "perfect" but he beat her repeatedly and had affairs with at least five other women.

The trial continues.
