HANNAH Wear was the star of the show as Wyre Forest Swimming Club were among the trophies at the Worcester County Sprint Championships.

The club clinched 10 golds, five silvers and seven bronzes with 16-year-old Wear's personal tally an impressive four golds and one bronze.

Wear secured first place in four out of the five events for her age group - the individual medley, backstroke, freestyle and breaststroke, and she was third in the butterfly.

She was fastest over all age groups in the backstroke. Wear also swam well to finish as fourth girl in the "Skins" event, which is a swim-off between the top eight free-style competitors at the end.

Ten girls and 16 boys aged between nine and 17 represented Wyre Forest in the competition at Wolverhampton on Sunday.

Eliza Bradley, 10, took gold in the 100m IM. It was the only event she was eligible for as she was too fast for the rest.

With almost 180 girls and 170 boys competing in the tournament, heats were run across all age groups.

The competition involved races of 50 metres over the four strokes, plus a 100 metre Individual Medley. Many club members finished in the top six and most swimmers beat their personal bests.

Other gold medalists were: James Hatherill (nine, 100m individual medley), Robert Smith (12, individual medley, butterfly and freestyle), Richard Carter (17, butterfly - fastest time overall)

Silver winners: Faith Ross (10, butterfly and freestyle) Chris Bromage (nine, individual medley), Smith (12, backstroke), Ross Morton (14, freestyle).

Bronze: Emily Lane (11, breaststroke), Bromage (nine, breaststroke), Hatherill (nine, backstroke and butterfly), Aaron Smith (10, backstroke), Smith (12, breaststroke).

Other positions: Ross (10, 4th, backstroke), Bromage (nine, 5th, backstroke), Hatherill (nine, 6th, freestyle), Morton (14, 4th, backstroke; 6th, individual medley and breaststroke), Carter (17, 4th, backstroke; 5th, individual medley).

Other top six finishes: Jack Barnett, 11; Alex Thorley, 11, Matthew Hibberd 12; Nick Carmichael, 16.
