BEWDLEY Tennis Club completed its 2004 Club Championships on Saturday with a thrilling display of tennis from both youth and experience.

In the ladies singles the ever promising Fay Trezise tested Mandy Sylvester before being defeated by the experienced Sylvester 6-0, 7-6.

Trezise had earlier secured her record fifth consecutive U18 Girls' Singles title over Chelsea Gordon.

The men's singles title was taken by energetic newcomer Clayton Edge in a nail biting three set thriller 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 against a resurgent Mike Field.

Sylvester joined forces with co-captain and club coach Tracey Powell to take the ladies doubles 6-2, 6-4 against fellow first team aces Dawn Gumbley and Penny Marchant.

Youth conquered experience in the match of the day men's doubles whenyoungsters Paul Marchant and Paul Bennett saw off father and son pairingNick and Dave Bell 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Bennett had earlier beaten fellow junior Phil Pratt in the Boys' U18 singles.

Sylvester powered on to claim her third title of the day in the handicap mixed doubles aided by the skillful Tom Rosoman.

They overcame some wily tennis from Lucy O'Dell and Rod Gethins before triumphing 6-4, 6-4.

In the final event of the day Sylvester joined forces with husband Jim to attempt the Grand Slam in the mixed doubles final.

Despite having match point the duo couldn't prevent the powerful Chris Lloyd and rock solid Tracey Powell from drumming out a 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 victory.

The veterans men's singles takes place this weekend between Pete Mauger and Mike Rosoman with Rosoman hoping to avenge last year's defeat by Mauger.
