PARISH councillors in Blakedown have become concerned following a spate of arson attacks - including one which gutted a much used bus shelter.

The wooden shelter, which stands on the A456 on the northern edge of the village and serves people travelling on buses going to Hagley, will have to be demolished following the attack.

Parish clerk, Roger Gurney, said: "I would think it is quite well used because it is near to the railway station and on a main bus route.

"It will probably cost £1,500 to replace, which we will be doing through our insurers."

He added the shelter was probably burnt out sometime during the weekend of August 14.

Police suspect the attack on the bus shelter might be connected to three other arson incidents, including one on a speed camera sign, another on a gate to a field and the roof of a hut behind a tennis club.

Anybody with information about those fires is asked to contact Kidderminster police on 08457 444888.

Mr Gurney said: "The parish council is concerned that there have been several incidents of arson in a short space of time."

Two juveniles were arrested in connection with another fire - not thought to be connected with the others - in which a 12-acre wheat field, in Belbroughton Road, Blakedown, was destroyed.

The juveniles have been bailed pending further police inquiries.
