A MAN answering a knock at the door became the victim of a truncheon-wielding attacker.

The assailant knocked at the door of a house in Jubilee Drive, Kidderminster and when the door was opened, he pulled out what was described as a police-style truncheon, raised it above his head and went to strike the occupant on the head.

"The occupant raised his left arm to protect himself and the truncheon struck him on the wrist," said PC Phil Green, of Kidderminster police.

"He moved backwards into the hall to get away but was followed into the house and a second attempt was made to hit him on the head with the truncheon but, again, he managed to raise his arm to protect himself and was hit on the wrist."

The attacker then left, heading in the direction of the junction with Victoria Place. He was described as black, in his mid 20s, 5ft 8ins tall and of stocky build. He was clean shaven, with short, tightly plaited hair and wearing a black bomber jacket.

PC Green said the man was believed to have looked through several windows before approaching the front door of the house where the attack happened.

The victim, who was in his early 20s, had pain and swelling in his wrist following the assault.

The incident happened just before 10pm on Thursday, July 8 but police have only just made details public.

"Although this happened a couple of months ago, we are hoping people will come forward," said PC Green.

"Witnesses or anyone else with information may have been getting ready to go on holiday and not had the opportunity to contact the police but the incident is still being investigated and it is not too late to contact us on 08457 444888."
