historians can go back to the classroom this autumn, thanks to Worcestershire County Council's Record Office special courses in historical research.
Participants will be able to explore topics of their own choosing, with expert guidance and resources on hand to help.
The 20-week courses run on Wednesdays and Thursdays, are due to start later this month at the record office headquarters, in County Hall, Worcester.
Wednesday sessions will be led by the county archives manager Robin Whittaker, while Dr Pat Hughes, an expert on the history of buildings, will run the Thursday evening classes.
Previously run by Birmingham University, the record office has stepped in to keep the popular classes going. Mr Whittaker said: "Over the years a great deal of very valuable research has been done, and many people have come back for more.
"We give guidance on where to find information and help with technical matters, such as dealing with old handwriting, but the subject and extent of the research is entirely up to the individual.
"No previous experience is needed."
Topics have ranged from the history of individual villages to the plight of the poor, the development of transport, crime, local industries and church history.
The fee for the whole course is £130 and it is essential to book a place in advance.
Anyone interested in joining should call 01905 766353 for further details.
