A POPULAR bobby who has been the licensing officer in Redditch for almost seven years is retiring this week.

Pc Nigel Payne, who has served with the West Mercia force for 26 years, will be handing over his role to Pc Simon Worley.

Pc Payne said: "I've enjoyed my time as licensing officer and have certainly seen some changes, particularly with the number of new licensed premises opening up in Redditch town centre.

"Some of these bars are large and have extended opening hours and this has brought a new set of challenges.

"I've been very encouraged by the co-operation from the local licensees and our partners at the council and I'm sure Pc Worley will build on these good relations.

"I've also noticed an increased professionalism of both licensees and their door staff which has had a very positive impact, as has the increased use of good quality CCTV at many premises."
